Did Sony actually increase the price of its console?
Canadian retailers, including Best Buy and Futureshop, have actually increased the price of the 60GB PlayStation 3 console in Canada over the past few days to $699.99. This is a $40 increase from the previous price of $659.99.
Although Sony hasn't officially announced a price increase (that we can find anyway), several retailers suddenly increasing the price of the console at the same time seems to indicate that Sony is behind it. The move doesn't seem to make sense on its surface, given continued anecdotal evidence that unsold PS3s languish at retail throughout North America.
