Harrison hints at a less cluttered future.
We're still over three months away from the PlayStation 3's launch, and already speculation has begun on its successor, presumably the PlayStation 4.
In an interview with Wired, Sony's head honcho Phil Harrison hints at a disc-less future for the PlayStation brand. While discussing downloadable games and content, Harrison even went so far as to say “I’d be amazed if the PlayStation 4 has a physical disc drive.”
So will gaming really be competely disc-less in five years? Personally I find that hard to believe, given that people like to physically own things, the size of most games would kill all but today's fastest connections, and the retail sector is always going to want a cut. Still, the trend is definitely strengthening, and will play a much bigger role as time marches on.
